Vera lives a quiet and lonely life, but has a secret crush on her neighbour. One day she finds his wallet with an autograph card from an alluring singer, Marla, and spots a chance to break out of her melancholy existence. Vera starts to transform herself, and finally encounters her neighbour in a bar in her role as Marla.
