What is behind the name Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris?

What is the Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris exactly? What is the course about and how is it organised? And how can you apply? We are happy to answer these questions on the following pages. But let’s start with a fundamental question: What does the programme involve?

The Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris is a one-year programme of continuous education funded by the European Union. More exactly: by Media, which is a sub-programme of the initiative CREATIVE EUROPE. Funds for the Atelier programme also come from the French and German governments, the German state of Baden-Württemberg and the Franco-German Youth Office. The training year is aimed primarily at up-and-coming film producers and distributors who have already graduated in a similar field. Prestigious lecturers come from the most varied fields of expertise in the film industry. They include producers and distributors, and also authors, directors and film composers from France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Your next step in the field of film production and film distribution

Developing ideas for a film, financing, production, sales and marketing: in other words, a comprehensive year of continuous education, many well-known lecturers and a broad knowledge of the European film industry. In the Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris up-and-coming film producers and distributors can develop their talents and hone their skills through participating in various practice-oriented projects. In Ludwigsburg, Paris, Strasbourg and London – at the international film festivals in Cannes and at the Berlinale.

You are a graduate of a film university or other relevant course. And the purpose of this one-year training programme is to offer you in-depth specialisation. Above all, it is about making valuable contacts. That way you will have the opportunity to build up your own network of young European producers. How? By making contact with the European film industry, and applying your knowledge and skills in close cooperation with notable cooperation partners such as the broadcasters ARTE and SWR, world sales and distributors from the industry.

The short film productions of ATELIER

Every year, nine short films based on the same theme are created as part of Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris. The series are Franco-German co-productions of the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg with La Fémis and with ARTE and SWR. Half of them are produced in Ludwigsburg, the other half in Paris. After their premieres in Germany and France, all the films appear on the programs of selected festivals where they regularly earn important awards. And the general public is able to view the productions – all of the films are being broadcasted on the Franco-German TV station ARTE every year. Almost all previous series are available online on ARTE Cinema.
